Leon Gautier "le Chartiste," a 19th century French specialist on medieval cartularies, is widely considered to be one of the leading authorities on the medieval Knight and on the institution of Chivalry in general. His seminal book "La Chevalerie" has always been required reading for novices within the Militia Sanctae Mariae. Indeed, it is in part the reading of this book which inspired Dom Gerard-Marie Lafond, OSB, Founder of the MSM, to create a "new chivalry" for a new time.
This text, long unavailable in the English language, may now be procured in the tongue of Shakespeare (translated by Henry Frith in 2007) at Amazon, as a Hardcover Book, for about US$40.00 (http://www.amazon.com/Chivalry-Leon-Gautier/dp/0548169861).
Needless to say, the MSM highly recommends this book to anyone interested in understanding the true lifestyle, practices, devotions and outlook the of the Knight.
